Trump: 'Every Single Promise I've Made to You as a Candidate, I've Delivered On'

President Trump says he has kept every promise he made on the campaign trail.

"Every single promise I've made to you as a candidate, I've delivered on," Trump told the crowd at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas on September 9. He added that he has delivered on far more than he talked about. In his closing remarks the next day, he went further, saying that "in 19 months, I've delivered on every single promise I made," and that he thinks he delivered on far more.

To make the case, Trump pointed to what he called the largest tax cuts in U.S. history, rollbacks of Biden-era business regulations, and lower prescription drug prices. Border crossings and immigration enforcement have also been central to his record in office, and he regularly cites them at rallies as proof that he did what he said he would do.

Fact-checkers have weighed in. PolitiFact's MAGA-Meter, which tracks his 2024 campaign promises one by one, rates 20 percent as kept and 41 percent as in the works, with many others stalled. It lists a few as broken, including ending the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office and ending birthright citizenship. CNN pointed to his pledge to end inflation. HuffPost listed lower energy prices among the pledges critics say are still open.

Even some critics give him partial credit. Former CNN anchor Don Lemon said on a podcast that Trump has delivered on "pretty much every promise" on policy, naming immigration, taxes and health care, while saying the economy is the main area where he has fallen short. Lemon is a longtime Trump critic, which is why his comment drew wide attention.

The two sides are partly measuring different things. Supporters count the big items he campaigned on hardest, like the border and taxes, and see clear results. Fact-checkers count every individual pledge, including smaller ones that are still moving through Congress or tied up in the courts. A promise marked "in the works" is not the same as a promise broken, and both sides use that gap to make their case.

Promise tracking has followed Trump before. A 2021 Washington Post review of his first term tracked 282 promises and concluded that many were not met, while an NBC News review found he had kept others, such as deregulation and moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

The convention itself was the first of its kind, a two-day midterm rally and fundraiser in Dallas meant to energize Republican voters before early voting starts. It was the first Republican convention held in Dallas since 1984. PolitiFact updates its ratings as promises move forward or stall. With the November 3 election three weeks away, Trump's record in office is the main argument he is asking voters to judge, and his claim of keeping every promise is the headline of that pitch.

From 1 to 10, how well has Trump kept his promises?
